As a big advocate for natural, alternative remedies to ailments and diseases, I have found myself turning to the use of essential oils quite often. Essentials oils are herbs that have been extracted from their plant form into a liquid form, making them extremely potent, and are often used on the skin or in a diffuser. And if using them as a health remedy isn’t enough, they’re also used in countless cleaning, personal care, and hygiene products. Just take your pick!

One of the gifts the three wise men brought to Jesus in the new testament, if Myrrh is good enough for Jesus it’s good enough for you! Myrrh is a great remedy for low functioning thyroid since it helps reduce stress on an overworked and underperforming thyroid. Place 2-3 drops a day directly on the thyroid area to decrease symptoms.

How To Use Essential Oils For The Thyroid

There are two different approaches to utilize these oils: you can apply them topically or use them in a diffuser. My personal favorite is using a diffuser, allowing the aromas to infiltrate the air and envelope the lungs. It’s a great and easy way to enter the world of essential oils, without any worries of correct dosing or using the wrong oil on the skin. Certain oils can be very relaxing and soothing, while other oils when mixed together can be very stimulating. There are also essential oils that can purify the air, and clean all areas of your home. Topical Application

The classic method of using essentials oils is to apply them topically. They are easily and quickly absorbed by the skin and into the bloodstream, causing their effect to be very quick. However, it’s important to choose oils wisely when it comes to placing them directly on the skin, some may cause irritation or allergic reactions!

It’s also important to dilute the oils before directly putting them on yourself. And while there are exceptions to this rule, it’s better to be safe than sorry. It’s easy to dilute oils with carriers such as coconut oil, olive oil, or other vegetable oils. In general, 3-5 drops oil to one teaspoon of coconut oil or almond oil will do the trick. The quickest way for your body to absorb the oils is to place them on the bottom of your feet because they have the biggest pores.

Essential Oil Blends

Blends are great ways to get the wonderful healing properties from multiple oils at once. These formulas have been created by others to solve issues that affect us all. One of the best blends for the thyroid calls for 3-4 drops of myrrh and lemongrass mixed together in a 5mL roller bottle and applying it on the thyroid area, big toes, and wrist several times daily.

My personal favorite blend for the thyroid is 10 drops myrrh and 10 drops lemongrass with 2-4 drops of peppermint oil.

Rotating Protocol

You can also rotate between two different sets of blends each week to help aid in hypothyroidism. The first week you can try 1 part lemongrass, 1 part myrrh, and 1 part carrier oil. Put in a 5mL bottle with a roller ball and apply to thyroid area three times daily.

Starting the second week, use 1 part zen, 1 part geranium, and 1 part carrier oil. Put in a 5mL bottle with a roller ball and apply to thyroid area three times daily. Revert back to week one after completing week two. Repeat as desired.
